Prof Thokozani Majozi

Attached to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, Professor Thokozani Majozi has successfully achieved a mix of academia and industry in his career. His main interest is batch process integration, and he has worked at Unilever and Sasol. He joined the University of Pretoria in 2004, and became an associate professor at the University of Pannonia in Hungary in 2005.
He is a member of various local and international committees and organisations, including the Academy of Sciences of South Africa and the South African Institute of Chemical Engineers. He was elected vice-chairman of the professional advisory committee for Chemical Engineering by the Engineering Council of South Africa in 2005. He is a NRF-rated researcher.
Professor Majozi’s other achievements include:
- Star Performer of the Year Award (Sastech) in 2003.
- Winner of the Sough African Institute of Chemical Engineers Chemical Technology competition in 2004.
- The Zdenek Burianec Memorial Award in Italy in 2005.
- The University of Pretoria’s Award for Outstanding Young Researcher in 2006.
- The NSTF Award for Distinguished Young Black Researcher in 2006.
- Received a Leading Minds Centenary Award from the University of Pretoria, one of only 97 researchers to receive this award in its 100-year history.
- Received a silver British Assocation medal.
- Appointed CSIR Fellow for the term 2009 – 2012.
- Won the NRF President’s Award for his role in the transformation of the science cohort in 2009.
